About LaKisha
Dr. LaKisha M. Williams is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and the founder of Healthy Thoughts of Maryland, LLC with over two decades of nursing experience rooted in service, leadership, and a deep commitment to patient care.
She began her nursing career in 2002 as an Army Nurse, where she developed a strong passion for caring for Soldiers and supporting their overall well-being. During her military service, Dr. Williams recognized the critical need for mental health support among service members—an experience that ultimately shaped her clinical focus and long-term career path.
In 2004, she transitioned into psychiatric nursing, working as a psychiatric RN and gaining hands-on experience in the treatment of mental health conditions. Driven by a desire to expand her impact and provide more comprehensive care, she pursued advanced training to become a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and later complete her Doctorate in Healthcare Administration.
Dr. Williams later joined the United States Public Health Service (USPHS), where she has served in a variety of clinical and leadership roles, further refining her expertise and broadening her scope of practice across diverse patient populations. She currently holds the rank of Commander (O-5), bringing a unique combination of clinical excellence and systems-level leadership to her work.
Clinically, Dr. Williams specializes in the evaluation and treatment of ADHD, anxiety, depression, and mood disorders in adolescents and adults. She is known for her structured, outcomes-focused approach—helping patients improve focus, regulate emotions, enhance sleep, and restore daily functioning. Her care emphasizes both symptom management and practical strategies that support long-term success.
